A new musical and poetic cycle „Youth Stage“ in the Villa Tugendhat aims to present well-known and also unknown talents of the Czech and Slovak art scene in the unique environment of the Villa Tugendhat glass room to the Brno audience. The opening programme called “New Architecture of Sound” will focus on the Brno composer, pianist and improvisation champion Sára Medková, who will perform together with the poet and wordsmith Nijo Copperfield.
Sára Medková
After graduating in piano at the Conservatory, she moved on to graduate in composition at the Janacek Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno under the leadership of I. Medek and gained her master degree of piano at the Academy of Music in Prague where she studied with P. Toperczer and I. Kahánek.
She was awarded many prizes from both national and international competitions and a much-sought performer of contemporary music she is often invited to perform world premieres, there have been more than a hundred of them. She appeared on concert stages of 21 countries in Europe, Asia and the USA and at festivals such as the Moravian Autumn, Pianodrom or New Music Week. Many European countries, the USA and China also heard her compositions. She regularly performs as a soloist with Czech and foreign orchestras (Brno Philharmonic Orchestra, Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic, Brno Contemporary Orchestra, the Moscow Contemporary Ensemble and others.). This year Sára Medková plans to perform at festivals in Krakow, Naples, Valencia or Los Angeles.
