This year’s final film screening at Villa Tugendhat will present Midnight in Paris by American director Woody Allen. The film, which had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in 2011, brings viewers into the unique setting of the French capital at the time of its heyday.
The central characters of the film are a young American couple, writer Gil (Owen Wilson) and his fiancé Inez (Rachel McAdams). They both come to Paris to accompany their Inez’ parents, but while Gil is excited by the city on the banks of the Seine, his fiancé does not share this enthusiasm. When one evening Inez leaves to go dancing with her friends, Gil decides to explore the French metropolis. During this walk he boards an old car that takes him to Paris at the time of its greatest glory.
