1. September, 10:00: Roots of anti-Semitism
A lecture by Rabbi Štěpán Menashe Kliment
Dramatic events in Israel have escalated the debate about what is acceptable criticism of Israel and when it is already anti-Semitism. The lecture by Štěpán Menashe Kliment, Rabbi of the Jewish Community of Brno, will focus primarily on the Czech Republic and the phenomena that take place, for example, in universities. Passionate discussion often based on different ideological assumptions sometimes spills over into hatred of opponents. This situation is not new and the Jewish community experienced it, for example, during the communist regime. The only way to overcome misunderstandings is through honest and open discussion that is not afraid to come to perhaps surprising conclusions.
