Ludwig Mies was born in Aachen, Germany on 27th of March 1886. The youngest son of the stonemason Michael Mies and his wife Amalie, maiden name Rohe, was baptised Maria Ludwig Michael. He attended the primary and cathedral school over the years 1892–99 and the industrial school in Aachen from 1900–02. He obtained his craft skills in the workshop of his father.
