On Wednesday 28 November 2012, world famous opera singer Soňa Červená visited the villa Tugendhat.
She was born in the family of the famous founder of the interwar Červená sedma cabaret, lawyer Jiří Červený. She began her theatre career after the war with Voskovec and Werich, but soon switched to opera. Then she devoted her entire professional career to it, having performed on great opera stages around the world. Her first operatic engagement was in Brno.
After thirty years in exile, she returned to her homeland and is still active in opera and drama roles. Viewers can find her especially at the National Theatre in Prague in a theatrically impressive operatic staging of “Tomorrow will be …” by Aleš Březina and Jiří Nekvasil about the infamous trial of Milada Horáková, who was executed in 1950. In a play by Karel Čapek, “The Makropulos Case”, directed by famous theatre director Robert Wilson, Soňa Červená excels in the role of a mysterious femme fatale Emilia Marty.
