EXHIBITION ON THE TUGENDHAT VILLA AT THE ARCHITECTURE WEEEK PRAGUE 2015

On Monday 17 August 2015, Architecture Week Prague 2015 – an international festival of architecture and urbanism, was launched in the Convent of St. George at Prague Castle. The central exhibition of this festival of architecture and urbanism focuses on “Monuments of My Region”, curated by architect Miroslav Řepa. Until 18 October 2015, visitors can see pictures, models, images and projections of castles, monasteries, villas and other important buildings. The exhibition in the Convent of St. George also presents monuments and modern architecture from 27 other countries around the world.

In cooperation with Czech Tourism agency,  show monuments in the Czech Republic, on the UNESCO World Heritage List will take place here. There will also be an information centre where visitors can learn about the various UNESCO monuments in the country. The exhibition will also feature a model of the UNESCO building in Paris. The only Czech monument of modern architecture, registered on the UNESCO World Heritage List, the Tugendhat Villa in Brno, is represented by a separate exhibition and with it also another three recently restored and opened Brno villas – the Löw-Beer villa, Villa Stiassny and Jurkovič House.

The Villa Tugendhat exhibition was prepared  by the Villa Tugendhat Study and Documentation Centre. This exhibition, complemented by an illuminated model of the villa was already presented with great acclaim and success in Chicago, at the Royal Institute of British Architects RIBA in London and the Czech national house in New York – the Bohemian National Hall in Manhattan in 2012. In 2013 it was presented in the Netherlands – at the Institute for Urban Design at the Hogeschool in Utrecht, the Czech Centre in Rotterdam and at the Department of Architecture of the Technical University of Eindhoven. In 2014 it was presented at the Museum of the City of Bratislava and in Stuttgart – in the exhibition hall of the Weissenhof museum, which is located in a house designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. This spring, visitors could see the exhibition at the Grassi Museum in Leipzig and in the autumn it will be introduced even at the CIVA Gallery in Brussels, at the Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna and the Luca School of Arts in Ghent. In the spring of next year it then head to Villa Stenersen in Oslo.

The Architecture Week in Prague also gives visitors a chance to see with the docu-drama film “The Fate of Tugendhat”, a short documentary about the restoration and monument renewal of Villa Tugendhat, created by director Rudolf Chudoba.
